Maybelline Master Contour Face Contouring Kit – Medium to Deep Review, Swatches

Maybelline Master Contour Face Contouring Kit – Medium to Deep

Sometime in December, I had a ton of parties and weddings to attend and was looking for a good but basic contouring kit. Around the same time, the lovely Ms Via of GlossnGlitters reviewed this palette. I was so impressed, I went ahead and bought it. The kit consists of 3 products – Contour, Blush and Highlighter.

The kit comes in two shades –

  • Light to Medium – which has basically cool toned shades
  • Medium to Deep – which has warm toned shades

I went for Medium to Deep shade.

My Take on Maybelline Master Contour Face Contouring Kit

Here is a quick description of each of the products in the kit-

Contour – It is a very finely milled powder with a very soft texture. It is a brown shade with a hint of orange. I would have preferred it to be on a darker side without the warm/orange tone. It is very intensely pigmented and you have to apply it with a light hand, else there is a chance that you might go overboard with this one. For those with deeper skin tones, this may not show up at all.

Blush – Its a warm peachy pink with hints of gold. It’s extremely low on pigmentation and I need to layer it to show up on my NC 41 skin tone. Hence, the color may not show up at all on deeper skin tones. In fact, on deeper skin tones it can show up as a highlighter. There is a lot of shimmer in this blush that is not gritty, but it is very prominent, making it unsuitable for regular use.

Highlighter – It’s a lovely warm toned highlighter which shows up beautifully on medium-deep Indian skin tones. The pigmentation is good and it shows up beautifully with even a single swipe. It doesn’t look stark at all. From all the three products in this palette, the highlighter is my favorite part.

Swatches. Have layered up the blush for it to show up here.

The best part of this palette is that all three shades complement each other really well and look lovely when used together. However, due to presence of a lot of shimmer in the blush, it is more of a festive use palette rather than an everyday one.

Packaging is simple but beautiful. On the backside of the palette, they have given instructions on how to use it. So it is a very good kit for beginners.

The brush provided with the kit is not of much use. I do use it for the highlighter sometimes. But for the blush and the contour, you will need to use your own brush.

All the powders are very finely milled and there is a lot of fallout in the palette as you can see from the pictures as well.

The staying power is quite nice. When used with a primer, stays for about 7-8 hours without touch ups and about 4-5 hours without a primer.

Do I recommend Maybelline Master Contour Face Contouring Kit in the shade Medium-Deep?

This is a really good palette for beginners. Since there is a lot of shimmer in the blush, you may not like to use it for regular use. Also, though all the three products show up well on medium skin tones, the blush and the contour may not show up on deeper skin tones.
