MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural – Medium Plus Review

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural – Medium Plus Review

I purchased this exactly a year ago. I had been reading a lot of amazing reviews about this MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural compact and finally decided to purchase it. Soon after, I had been on a trip to Bangalore to visit my best friend and cousins. I was overjoyed to see them since we were meeting after ages. Amidst all the excitement, at my friend’s place, I accidentally dropped my handbag in which I was carrying this brand new compact. After some time when I opened it, to my horror, I saw that a big part of the beautiful dome shaped compact was crumbled to powder. It took me a lot of will power to not bawl like a baby. For one, it is quite expensive, secondly it was not even a couple of weeks old! Then later when I met my cousin, I borrowed a tiny empty tin from her and transferred the crumbled part to the tin. I used from that for a very long time. Now that story time is over, lets proceed with the review 🙂

About MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Medium Plus

Price This shade Medium Plus is priced at Rs 2,600 (some shades are priced at Rs 2,850) for 10 gm

My Take on MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural – Medium Plus

Shade I am NC 41 and the MUA recommended the shade Medium Plus for me. The official site describes this shade as Tan Beige.

Texture & Fragrance The powder is very finely milled. And as I learnt it the difficult way, the powder is quite soft. Dropping it will lead to breakage. It has no fragrance at all.

Packaging Comes in classy MAC compact form with a mirror. The powder is pressed into dome shape inside the compact. It doesn’t come with any applicator.

Coverage & Finish I always use my Real Techniques face brush to apply this powder. During application, I can barely see anything on my skin. However, once I complete applying on my entire face and neck, there is a lovely natural, luminous glow. It doesn’t look like I have any makeup on. It gives the best natural looking finish I have ever come across.

You can see a subtle luminous glow at the centre. I have applied only one layer here.

In this swatch, I have applied and blended it on my inner arm. It works well on covering minor redness and slightly uneven skin tone. However, it does not cover any major blemishes, dark spots, dark circles, discoloration or redness. I would say that the coverage is sheer to medium. You have to really work upon building it up. More often than not, I do not go for a full-coverage makeup look. So I apply this directly over my moisturizer, sunscreen or BB cream and I am done. It does mattify the skin to some extent, and gives a naturally bright and glowy look. I use a bit of concealer underneath at the corners of my mouth where I have slight discoloration. If you prefer a full coverage, you can also use it as a finishing powder over your foundation.

Staying Power The staying power of this is about 4-5 hours for normal/dry skin. After that you will need to re-apply/touch up. However, if the climate is extremely humid or if your skin is oily, you may need to touch-up even more frequently.

Summing up,

Pros

  • Blends beautifully to gives a natural looking luminous glow
  • Extremely light on the skin
  • Not at all cakey or chalky
  • The quantity is really good – lasts a very long time. I am using mine since a year (except a few months in summer when I had tanned a lot due to swimming) and you can see how much is still left.
  • Sheer – medium coverage – good for covering minor redness/uneven skin tone
  • Mineral based and contains Vitamin E

Cons

  • Quite expensive (but, hey, it’s MAC! 🙂 )
  • Will need frequent touch-ups if you have oily skin or if the climate is humid
  • No applicator provided

Would I recommend this?

Absolutely! Highly recommended for dry/normal skin. If you don’t mind the price and are looking for a compact that gives a natural luminous glow and finish, you will absolutely love this!

You can buy it here on Nykaa. However, if you’re not sure which shade to go for, I strongly recommend you go to a MAC store and get the perfect shade.

    • Yeah, do give it a try again. Hope it doesn’t break you out this time..

  10. How sad you broke your compact! I have heard of this product before, but yeah… can’t afford it. I also do better with cream-based facial products rather than power-based, because my older skin tends to be very dry.

    • I know, it’s definitely quite expensive and not a must have. And like you said, cream products work better on dry skin..

  11. I will certainly pick it up at a MAC store to get the prefect shade. You review makes me want this is my makeup collection.

  14. I have not tried MAC> I have heard they are wonderful though. I guess I’ll check them out for the ladies in the family for Christmas. They all deserve a little indulgence and what better excuse than a holiday? ?

    • That would be a wonderful choice of gifts, I am sure the ladies will love it 🙂

  15. This seems like a great product but I don’t think I would be able to use it because of my oily skin.

    • In that case, you will need very frequent touch-ups. Best avoided

  16. Thanks for the review. I have never been trying MAC product. For me, it is quite expensive.

    • It’s definitely on the expensive side.

    • Yeah, they’re definitely expensive, but their base products are worth the price 🙂
